Television service providers typically have to deal with a wide range of signal formats and encoding schemes when performing aggregation of multiple channels in their headends. The IRD-3811 is an ideal tool for performing signal aggregation from either DVB-S or DVB-S2 satellite down links or from the reception of ATSC terrestrial signals. Using an ultra-compact form factor of up to 10 decoders per 3RU Densité frame, the IRD combines extensive signal decoding with advanced processing functions and probing.
With its ability to decode all leading video and audio encoding schemes used in channel distribution, the Densité IRD can be used to receive signals from miscellaneous sources, including satellite or terrestrial digital, in multiple formats, including ASI, IP or RF, MPEG-2 or H.264, Dolby Digital or AAC.
For operators concerned about signal quality, the IRD provides transport stream monitoring functions that include TR 101 290 alarming, program bit rate monitoring, and analysis of the ASI transport stream structure.
With its up/down/cross conversion functionality, the Densité IRD offers the TV service provider full control over the format of the signal it forwards into its network. Incoming signals that are collected as HD can be downconverted to SD, with their 5.1 audio downmixed to 2.0. Similarly, the IRD can convert SD signals into HD. The IRD also provides the ability to perform frame synchronization of the decoded signal. To maintain the highest quality, the IRD provides control over brightness, saturation, hue and contrast with its proc-amp functions.
